Rev. Tyler Dirks

Senior Pastor

Tyler was born in The Wild Wild West (Dodge City KS). After graduating from Kansas State University in Manhattan KS (The Little Apple), Tyler voyaged to the East Coast to marry his beautiful bride (Carrie …whom he met in 2002 while working at Crooked Creek Young Life Camp in Fraser Valley Colorado). Tyler obtained his Masters of Divinity from Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte NC in 2007, and then took a call to shepherd students and faculty members at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte as the RUF Campus Minister from 2007-2013. Tyler then took a call to plant a church in Central Carolina Presbytery on the East Side of Charlotte in June of 2013. Tyler & Carrie have 5 lovely and rambunctious children – – – > Maggie, Henry, Haven, Phinehas, and Winston (and a dog named Bella, and a cat named Rainbow).

Tyler LOVES anything written by CS Lewis (favorite = “Till We Have Faces“).  Additionally Tyler thoroughly enjoys anything by Flannery O’ Connor, Redemption Accomplished & Applied by John Murray, The Supper of the LambA Culinary Reflection by Robert Farrar Capon, and Critique Magazine published by Ransom Fellowship.  Frisbee? …Yes Please!  Hiking and/or a walk in the woods? …absolutely!  Bread and wine? …you betchya!  When it comes to musik Tyler believes that The Oh Hellos are genius, Lord Huron is thought-provoking, and there’s something pretty darn intriguing about the Red Hot Chili Peppers!  The best movie ever is a tie between The Princess Bride and Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Rev. Jason Piteo

Associate Pastor

Jason was born and raised in suburban Cleveland, Ohio near the shores of Lake Erie. He ventured to West Lafayette, Indiana where he met his lovely wife. There he earned associate’s and bachelor’s degrees from Purdue University (class of 2000) with a focus on Computer Information Systems. Jason & Jill were married six days after Jason’s graduation and subsequently moved to Danbury, CT so that Jason could begin his job at IBM. He was in the regular (non-ministry) workforce for 10 years as an IT manager and was eventually an owner of a small business in the IT industry. After Jason & Jill sensed and processed a call to ministry, the Piteo family eventually moved to Charlotte in 2010 to attend Reformed Theological Seminary and to begin the pursuit of a seminary education in preparation for pastoral ministry. Jason graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in May 2013 and was ordained as a PCA pastor in September 2013. Jason and his family were members at Uptown Church where he served on staff for four years until the birth of the East Charlotte church plant in Summer 2014.

His hobbies and interests include astrophysics, gardening, soccer, disc golf, and chicken wrangling. He is also a sports enthusiast with an undying loyalty (read: long-suffering) to the Cleveland sports franchises, despite their unfortunate lack of championship fruit during his lifetime. He has been married to Jill for 15 years and they have four children: Anthony, Abby, Lucy, and Kara. Ask Jason about this fun fact: their daughter Lucy was born on their kitchen floor in Mint Hill (thus her nickname: “Linoleum Lucy”)! Having learned their lesson, they made it to the hospital for Kara’s birth with two hours to spare!

Alex Parman

Mike Schnee

Michael Schnee was born and raised in Kent, Ohio. He met the Lord at the age of 12 at a Billy Graham Crusade in Cleveland, Ohio. It wasn’t until he was 17 that he began to more deeply understand, by way of the Holy Spirit through the ministry of Young Life, his sin and need for Christ. By the age of 23, his spiritual walk was sharpened by exposure to Calvinism and the reformed faith.
Michael attended the University of Mount Union, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in history, with a minor in secondary education. Upon graduation from Mount Union in 2005, he married Courtney, moved to Charlotte, and within their first year of marriage, were given the first of four children (Noah, Gus, Anina, and Luca). Michael has been teaching middle and high school social studies, as well as coaching cross-country, track, and softball in the Charlotte area since 2006.

In his spare time, Michael thoroughly enjoys spending time with his family, camping, playing pick-up sports, reading (particularly C.S. Lewis works), and cheering for the Cleveland Browns, Cavs, and Indians, as well as THE Ohio State Buckeyes.

Justin Harwood

Worship Director

Justin was born and raised in Albemarle, NC. He attended Stanly Community College and obtained two Associate of Applied Science degrees in Information Security and Network Administration. He specializes in Information Security and currently oversees the Security Infrastructure Services team at Central Piedmont Community College in uptown Charlotte, NC. Justin grew up into a musical family, first learning piano at the age of five from the best piano teacher in the world, his mother. He also picked up his father’s ear for picking out harmonies and playing music without music and song writing abilities. From there his thirst for music grew exponentially and began learning trumpet, guitar, bass, drums, and any instrument he could get his hands on. He knew his God-given gift was music and began seeking ways to use those gifts for the Kingdom at his home church, Second Street Presbyterian Church in Albemarle, NC while in high school. After 10 years of leading worship in church and bible studies, Justin felt called to move to Charlotte, NC to seek ministry opportunities.

In 2012, he joined Uptown Church and became one of four worship leaders at that time. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Charlotte and eventually pursued the call to take part in the East Charlotte Pres church plant taking on the role as the Worship Director. He just purchased his first home in East Charlotte, just in time for the birth of ECPC. Justin loves music, family, friends, theology, kayaking, camping, ethical hacking (yep, you read that right), learning languages, discovering new bands, traveling, golf, Carolina Panther football, and Duke basketball (if you are a Tarheel fan, we still can be friends, maybe).

Kristen Parman

Children's Ministry Director

Kristen was born in Arlington, Virginia to Beth and Steve Martin – nope, not that Steve Martin – and is the oldest of three. She grew up in Herndon, VA and attended McLean Presbyterian Church (PCA) regularly with her family where she especially enjoyed Sunday night youth group and her Girls’ Discipleship Group where she began to embrace her faith as her own. During college at William and Mary, she focused her time on school and service, so it seemed natural to graduate and accept a position through Teach for America teaching middle school math in Charlotte, NC. In 2009, she met her husband, Alex, at Uptown Church, and they married in June 2011. She taught math for 4.5 years until Rebekah was born, and then Lydia followed two years later.

Besides running around after two very busy young girls, Kristen enjoys music, which these days means keeping up with episodes of “The Voice,” but in former high school years meant embracing life as a band nerd, playing the oboe. As a self-proclaimed introvert, she enjoys meeting with other women and their families to talk about life.  While some day she’d love to travel the States and abroad, in this life stage she enjoys watching crime shows, like Bones, and cheering alongside her husband for the Tennessee Volunteers.
