This morning my wife texted me to ask if Douglas Kaine McKelvey had written a liturgy for students graduating high school or college. So I looked in Dougie’s book (Every Moment Holy: Vol. I), and sure enough… on page 38 there is A Liturgy for Students & Scholars!
In the liturgy Dougie prays, “Guard my heart against the temptation to compare my own performance to the work of my peers, and keep me from falling into either of the twin traps of shame or pride. And grant that I might happily steward what gifts you have apportioned to me, and that I might do so as means of service to you and to others; my identity drawn from your love and forgiveness, and not from my ability, adroitness, or accolades. And SHOW ME WHERE MY OWN DEEP GLADNESS AND THE WORLD’S DEEP NEED MIGHT MEET.
That last line! That’s so good! That’s the secret sauce!!
I was reviewing my job description yesterday afternoon (PCA Book of Church Order, Chapter 8). And I was delighted to be reminded that my job is to: Teach in accordance with the emphasis of Jesus of Nazareth! (SEE MATTHEW 13:34)! To offer the true theological MEAT and MATURITY that Jesus of Nazareth offered (SEE MATTHEW 13:34 + JOHN 4:29 + LUKE 24:27 + 1 COR.2:2). And to seek the fruit of the preached Word (SEE MARK 14:1-9)! And to declare God’s MERCY to SINNERS (SEE the story of JONAH). And to bear glad tiding of salvation (SEE JOHN 4:29). And to steward the mysteries of God (SEE 1 COR. 4:1).
