The Bills Mafia holds to certain traditions. For example the folding table ritual and spraying ‘Pinto Ron’ with ketchup & mustard. These rituals might seem impersonal, painful, unnecessary, and/or wrong to outsiders, but devoted Bills fans are thrilled and galvanized by these customs!
Well… when it comes to the week of unleavened bread (Exodus 13:3-10), and the consecration of the firstborn (Exodus 13:11-16) it’s the same situation. To outsiders these traditions seem impersonal, painful, unnecessary, and/or wrong, but devoted followers of אֶהְיֶה are thrilled and galvanized by these customs!
These traditions boil down to the death of the firstborn son.
The reason the Israelites were hastily expelled from the land of Egypt (and thus did not have time to leaven their bread) is because God had killed all the firstborn sons who did not have lamb’s blood on the doorframe of their homes. In other words, you either embrace and apply the blood of the slaughtered lamb OR you despise what God treasures and violently expel it.
And speaking of God’s treasure …God’s zeal for the consecration of all the firstborns (Exodus 13:1, 11-16) is all about His unwavering commitment to cherish and enjoy His treasured possession!
And HOW will God ransom and irrevocably secure His treasured possession???
The Firstborn, only begotten, Son of God will be put to death [the Son of God will become THE CURSE, the Son of God will become sin!], and in this way – exclusively and emphatically – God’s treasured people are unalterably redeemed (See 2 Corinthians 5:21, and John 3:14).
And this seems painful, unnecessary, and/or wrong (Matthew 16:21-23; Exodus 12:31-32, 39). We instinctively feel that we must violently oppose and expel the man who makes 2 Corinthians 5:21 and John 3:14 his main mission. And because Jesus of Nazareth refused to amend His emphatic mission of becoming the LAMB LED TO SLAUGHTER – it was for that reason Jesus was violently expelled from the world.
And even though 2 Corinthians 5:21 and John 3:14 and Matthew 16:21-23 seem painful, unnecessary, and/or wrong – we (the אֶהְיֶה mafia) decide to know nothing except Jesus Christ and Him crucified (1 Corinthians 2:2), and we insist on being regarded as servants of the crucified Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God (1 Corinthians 4:1).
