We had a secret meeting this morning.

Yes.

Secret how?

The meeting was at 6a —> and thus it lurks in the shadows of the “social geography” of the day. To schedule a meeting at such an hour is to operate in a window of time that exists outside of the mainstream of public popular life and fashionable culture.

Someone at this meeting read something “HIGHLY INAPPROPRIATE.”

It felt wantonly lewd, indecent, crass, and unseemly (like Ezekiel 23:20).

Here is it:

“Scold your mother. Make it a real confrontation. She’s no longer my wife and I’m no longer her husband. Tell her to wash the whore-paint off her face and take the lover-charms from between her breasts. If she doesn’t, I’ll strip her buck naked. I’ll leave her as bare as the day she was born. I’ll turn her into a barren badlands, a corpse in the desert. I’ll have no mercy on her children. They’re the offspring of a whore. Their mother has lived a loose life. The one who conceived them has no shame. She said, ‘I’m going after my lovers. They give me my food and drink, my wool and flax, my olive oil and wine.’ “That’s why I’m going to fence her in with thorns and wall her in so she can’t find her way out. She’ll go out looking for her lovers but won’t find them. She’ll get down on her knees and look for them, but won’t find a soul. Then she’ll say, ‘I’m going back to my first husband. I was much better off with him than I am now.’ She didn’t realize that it was I who gave her the grain, the wine, and the oil. I showered her with silver and gold, which she used in the worship of Baal. So now I’m taking back my grain at harvest and my wine in the fall. I’m taking back the wool and the flax I gave her to cover her nakedness. I’ll strip her in public, right in front of her lovers. No one will be able to help her. I’ll put an end to her celebrations—the annual feasts, the new moons, the Sabbaths, all her festivals. I’ll wreck her vines and fig trees, the ‘wages’ she says her lovers paid her. I’ll let them grow up in weeds—wild animals will eat the fruit. I’ll punish her for the times she burned incense to the Baals, when she primped and preened before the mirror and went off looking for her lovers, and forgot all about me.” This is God’s Decree.”

AND IF YOU THINK THAT TRANSLATION IS wantonly lewd, indecent, crass, and unseemly… Then you’re definitely not going to like how it sounds and feels in THE ORIGINAL LANGUAGE!

לָכֵ֛ן הִנְנִי־שָׂ֥ךְ אֶת־דַּרְכֵּ֖ךְ בַּסִּירִ֑ים וְגָֽדַרְתִּי֙ אֶת־גְּדֵרָ֔הּ וּנְתִיבוֹתֶ֖יהָ לֹ֥א תִמְצָֽא׃
