It’s been a long time since the last blog post here on the ECPC website.  I know that all of you faithful blog readers have been going through withdrawals, but alas – here is a fresh blog post!

Disclaimer:  blogging is not my “unique ability” (at least I don’t think it is …but one can never be too sure, because we are all horribly deficient whence it comes to self-awareness).  Unique ability or not, this blog post is basically a “Copy&PasteFest” (call me lazy, but that’s the way I’m doing business here in the blogosphere today :-).

First of all, if you’ve never read “The Screwtape Letters” then please cease and desist from all other “priorities” (Bible reading, prayer, and gathering with the saints aside), procure the book, and read at least the first letter or two.  Secondly, if you’ve never heard of the band The Oh Hellos then please cease and desist from all other “priorities” (Bible reading, prayer, and gathering with the saints aside), procure their most recent album (Dear Wormwood) and listen to it in its entirety.  Side note:  I would LOVE to grab coffee with you at some point in the near future to discuss your impressions of these good works!

The summation song of the album is (obviously) Dear Wormwood [track 11].  I have gone to great lengths to google, copy, and paste the lyrics for you here (you’re welcome …you owe me bigtime!):

When I was a child
I didn’t hear a single word you said
Things I was afraid of
They were all confined beneath my bed
The years have been long
And you have taught me well to hide away
The things that I believed in
You’ve taught me to call them all escapes

I know who you are now
I know who you are
I know who you are now

Standing on the threshold
I saw another world beyond myself
And in my hour of weakness
You were there to see my courage fail
Years have been long
And you have taught me well to sit and wait
Planning without acting
Steadily becoming what I hate

Cause I know who you are now
I know who you are
I know who you are now
OH ooo

I have always known you
You have always been there in my mind
Now I understand you
And I will not be part of your designs

Cause I know who I am now
And all that you made of me
I know who you are now
And I made you my enemy

I know who I am now
I know who I wanna be
I want to be more than
This devil inside of me
Wah Oh!
Oh ooo!

If you’ve ever been in an abusive relationship then these lyrics resonate with you.  If you have been awoken to the realities of spiritual warfare then these lyrics inspire and invigorate you!

The track that precedes Dear Wormwood is a song entitled Soldier, Poet, King (again, I have taken extraordinary pains to google, copy, and paste the lyrics for you):

There will come a soldier
Who carries a mighty sword
He will tear your city down, o lei o lai o lord
O lei, o lai, o lei, o lord
He will tear your city down, o lei o lai o lord

There will come a poet
Whose weapon is his word
He will slay you with his tongue, o lei o lai o lord
O lei, o lai, o lei, o lord
He will slay you with his tongue, o lei o lai o lord

There will come a ruler
Whose brow is laid in thorn
Smeared with oil like David’s boy, o lei o lai o lord
O lei, o lai, o lei, o lord
Smeared with oil like David’s boy, o lei o lai o lord

O lei, o lai, o lei, o lord
He will tear your city down, o lei o lai

If God has given you eyes to see, and you’ve read the Book of Revelation – then no doubt you FEEL the triumph and joy of a song like this!
