True leadership at ECPC is found in the “hidden” places—the wilderness of the Psalms, the subterranean work of the soil, and the private grit of the rock climber, hiker, and/or mountaineer. We believe that God reveals the secrets of the Kingdom not to the self-assured or the “wise and understanding,” but to those who embrace the posture and personality of a child. Following the example of King Solomon’s early humility and King David’s formative wilderness years, we recognize that visual “success” and “security” are tainted and toxic, while the wilderness is the birthplace of true worship.[1]
[1] How is this evidenced in the life of Sarah Smith (from The Great Divorce). Along with Sarah Smith, other excellent examples include: Phil Connors, Tenzing Norgay, Edmond Dantés, Willy Wonka, Mary Poppins, Bansky.
