To everyone sincerely involved and substantially invested in this community,

We need to talk about what is happening in our midst with our dear brother – The Vizier/Viceroy (צָפְנַת פַּעְנֵחַ) and his brothers. This situation is extraordinarily complex, deeply messy, and carries high stakes for everyone at ECPC. I am putting this “out there” – because we cannot afford to be indifferent to this quandary, or navigate it blindly.

The Reality of the Situation

  • Severe Historical Trauma: The Vizier suffered horrific abuse and betrayal at the hands of his brothers. His fundamental mistrust of them is entirely logical and completely understandable.
  • Massive Power Imbalance: The Vizier currently holds immense state power, and he is using his position to falsely accuse his brothers of being enemies of the state, and incarcerate them; AND there are very credible reports that The Vizier has secretly planted incriminating evidence against his brothers on more than one occasion! I think most of us believe that The Vizier is doing this to test the trustworthiness and the true character of his brothers, but it raises ethical questions (and I know some of your are disturbed and concerned by the Vizier’s actions).
  • Deception & Concealment: The brothers do not know the Vizier’s true identity. They believe they are dealing strictly with a government authority figure.
  • Community Strain: Both the Vizier and his brothers are tied to us. There is tremendous potential for catastrophic confusion and relational wreckage, ranging from wrongful imprisonment to full-scale family collapse.

Evaluating the Course of Action

Honestly… We really aren’t sure what to do.

Some have suggested bringing formal charges against the Vizier within our group – for deception and planting evidence.

Formally charging or publicly exposing the Vizier right now would likely destabilize his position (and that has massive ramifications when it comes to our ability to eat …because the Vizier controls the food!).

Moreover, people have suggested that brining charges against the Vizier might destroy any chance of genuine reconciliation, for some are of the opinion that the Vizier is cooking up some kind of crazy “family reunion and restoration”! And IF the Vizier is somehow using all of this deception and false accusations and what not to orchestrate a master plan of reconciliation and redemption then to thwart that plan would be harmful to our collective, and detrimental to the stability of our community.

However, letting the Vizier proceed unchecked carries risks as well. And I know there are plenty of you who are not-at-all comfortable with the false accusations, and the planting of incriminating evidence, and the wrongful imprisonment of the Vizier’s brothers; nor are you okay with the abuse of state power under the guise of a personal test.

Please digest this. We need to decide on our next steps together.
