- Matthew 18. Commitment: Name the sin of someone else directly and establish charges. If there is no obvious, substantial, and sustained repentance, avoid that person and cut ties. …Gangrene [2 Timothy 2:16–17] avoid irreverent, empty chatter because it spreads and eats away at a community like gangrene. Foolish & Ignorant Controversies [2 Timothy 2:23] steer clear of foolish and ignorant arguments or controversies, noting that they only breed strife and quarrels. Divisive People & Quarrels [Titus 3:9–10] avoid foolish controversies. Warn a divisive person and then have nothing more to do with them.
2. Acknowledge Sharp Disagreement(s) & stop working together (Acts 15). Commitment: Acknowledge an insurmountable operational disagreement with mutual respect, clarify the divide, and stop working together.
3. Distant Love & Guarded Communication (2 Corinthians). Commitment: Acknowledge that your joy is NOT the joy of other person, and acknowledge that you care about your own gladness, and refrain from interacting with each other. ACCEPT you can write one letter to that person (based on 2 Corinthians)… Offering a complex and confusing and most likely – deeply OFFENSIVE written communication.
4. Mutual Submission & High-Functioning Collaboration (Ephesians 5). Commitment: Submit to one another and execute shared goals with respect and fruitfulness. You will not be close personal friends, but it’ll be constructive and healthy. You will be like Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Phil Jackson and Dennis Rodman. *You will NOT complain against each other (you’ll complain about Jerry Krause). *Submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ (Ephesians 5:21).
5. Deep Joy & Total Alignment (Paul & Titus). Commitment: Wholehearted partnership defined by shared mission, deep trust, mutual enjoyment, and genuine affection in labor and fellowship (2 Corinthians 2:12-13, 7:6, 13; Titus 1:4 …Paul finds true rest and joy in Titus as his genuine brother, dear friend, and partner).
