Person A: “You should be obsessed with Jesus of Nazareth.”

Person B: “Look, I have no problem with Jesus. I respect him. I don’t worship him, but I readily and unreservedly approve of him and what he stood for.”

Person A: “That’s crazy!”

Person B: “Why do you say that? Don’t you readily and unreservedly approve of Jesus and what he stood for?”

Person A: “Absolutely not!”

Person B: “What?!”

Person A: “I rarely ever instantly, or unreservedly, agree with Jesus… the agreement is typically a long time in coming; it is an acquired taste!”

Person B: “What are you talking about?!?”

Person A: “Alright, let me give you an example. There was this one time a desperate woman approached Jesus, begging Him to heal her severely suffering daughter. And at first, Jesus doesn’t even answer her. He just ignores her, which honestly seems incredibly rude to me. Then Jesus’ friends chime in and say, ‘Send this lady away, she’s bothering us! And her presence with us ain’t appropriate.’

When Jesus finally speaks, He says to the lady, ‘I only help Jews.’ Which isn’t strictly true, because He’s helped all kinds of non-Jewish people!

But this woman refuses to leave. She gets right up to close to Jesus, and she bows down to Him, and begs even harder. Then Jesus says to her, ‘It isn’t right to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs.’

And then the woman says, ‘Yes, but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.’

Then Jesus says, ‘Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.’

Person B: “What?! You want me to be obsessed with Jesus after telling me a story like that!!?”

Person A: “Absolutely.”
