Sermon Text: Jonah 2:1-10

Outline:

  1. The God We Want
  2. The God We Need

Reflection Questions:

  1. Have you ever read something about God in the Bible and thought, “I just don’t like this about God!?” What kind of false, limited gods do you tend to create for yourself?
  2.

In what parts of your life do you feel distressed? Could you read the words of Jonah and echo them in your own heart? If not, why?

  3. What are some ways that God has changed you over the course of your life? What progressive means did he use to accomplish this change? Does God’s past provision and work in your life provide you with hope while in your current struggles?

  4. Hebrews 4:15 says, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.” If this is true, then Jesus can identify with every area of distress we face. How might this change our perspective in our present sufferings?
