Let’s talk about Mary.

Mary the earthly mother of Jesus? No doubt she’s a fascinating lady, and I would love to chat about her at some point in the future (e.g. What did she especially remember about her encounter with Gabriel? What was the biggest fight she and Joseph ever got in? What are 3 or 4 anecdotes about her life in Nazareth? What was the ‘Holy Spirit overshadowing’ experience like? As Jesus’ mom, how did she apply Proverbs 13:24?), but that’s not the Mary I want to talk about right now.

I’m talk’n ‘bout Poppins! Mary Poppins!

ECPC is currently committed to imaginatively immersing ourselves in the portions of the Γέγραπται that mention the power, personality, and priorities of the Holy Spirit. And of course that means we must talk about Mary Poppins!

Here’s the story of M. Poppins in a nutshell… she descends like a dove into the lives of the Banks children, whose lives are disorderly and chaotic; and Mary hovers over their bedlam and turpitude as a mysterious and providential HELPER [עֹזֵ֥ר].[1] Mary Poppins brings order, structure, joy, and salubriousness to the Banks kids. She is enigmatic, playful, strict, modest, and formidable! She is like the wind, you don’t know where she comes from, or where she’s going.[2] And above-all, her priority is to nurture the relationship between the Banks children and their father!

“Winds In The East, Mist Coming In.”
