Sermon Text: Deuteronomy 7

Outline:

  1. Purge (vv.1-5, 24-26)
  2. Prized (vv.6-16)
  3. Presence (vv.17-23)

Reflection Questions:

  1. What valuable, useful thing is God telling you to purge from your life? (e.g. anger, self-pity, self-protection, phone, staying crazy busy, social-networking, gossip, lying, grumpiness, victimization, etc.).
  2. How would you like it if God were absolutely bonkers about you? Would that finally make you feel secure, confident, and satisfied? …or would you choose to doubt it, downplay it, and remain cynical and insecure?
  3. How would you like to NOT have to prove yourself all the time? …How would you like to simply accept the fact that God loves you unconditionally and non-provisionally?
  4. Is the presence of God valuable to you? If “Yes”, how so? (be very specific and
personal in your answer). Is the presence of anything besides God more precious to you than the presence of God?
