“Madness”
Nehemiah 2:17-20
Rev. Tyler Dirks
Sermon Outline:
- The Call
- The Critics
- The Confidence
Reflection Questions:
- When was a time that someone invited you into a mission that felt like madness?
- In Isaiah chapter 8 God says, “Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. But the LORD of hosts, let Him be your fear, and let him be your dread. He will become a sanctuary and a stone of offense and a rock of stumbling to, and many shall stumble on it; they shall fall and be broken.” What about Jesus do you find offensive, or irrational, or ‘too crazy’?
- In what ways are you ruled by fear? How does Jesus’ confrontational observation resonate with you, “You are anxious and troubled about many things?”
- Jesus says, “I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” Does this inspire robust confidence in you? Why or why not?
- What kind of pressure do you feel these days? Pressure from the world? Pressure from the church? (e.g. Woke pressure? Victim pressure? Materialism pressure? Cautious-ism pressure? Consumerism pressure? Efficiency & success pressure? Etc.).
- Do you feel pressured to EMBRACE Matthew 10:16, 2 Corinthians 12:9, and John 4:29?
